This study evaluated the effects of irrigating solutions containing 5% boric acid + 1% citric acid or 1% peracetic acid + high concentration hydrogen peroxide on root cleaning and bond strength of cementation systems after 24 h and 6 months of glass fiber post cementation. One hundred and twenty roots were endodontically treated. The specimens were randomized into one of four treatments (n = 10): DW (distilled water); NaOCl2.5% + EDTA17% (2.5% sodium hypochlorite solution + 17% EDTA); PA1% + HP (1% peracetic acid solution + high concentration of hydrogen peroxide); BA5% + CA1% (5% boric acid associated with 1% citric acid). The cleaning efficacy in the cervical, middle, and apical thirds of the post‐space, and the push‐out bond strength at 24 h and 6 months after post cementation were evaluated by Kruskal‐Wallis and two‐way ANOVA tests, respectively. BA5% + CA1% showed statistically significantly superior cleaning efficacy compared to the other solutions. This irrigation protocol also resulted in higher bond strength at 24 h and 6 months, regardless of the root third considered, and this was statistically significantly higher than those seen for DW and PA1% + HP. For BA5% + CA1% irrigation protocol, type 1 adhesive failure was the most prevalent. Post‐space irrigation with BA5% + CA1% provided both higher cleaning efficacy and better bond strength.

Background: Effective debris and smear layer removal affects post-cementation and bond strength. Aim: The aim was to compare the effectiveness of debris and smear layer removal using standard irrigation and activated irrigation with heated EDTA. Moreover, an irrigant activation technique was chosen in the current research, employing the ultrasonic activation of an EDTA solution after being heated directly inside the post space preparation. Materials and Methods: 30 single-rooted human mandibular premolar teeth were used in the current study to test the proposed techniques. First, the teeth were cut to have standardised roots 18 mm in length and prepared endodontically, and then the post space was carried out on all the samples. Then the specimens were randomly distributed into three study groups according to the post space irrigation technique. In detail, the groups were group 1, where a 3D cleaning technique was used; group 2, where the traditional irrigation with EDTA was applied; and group 3, where only saline as an irrigant was used. The third group was considered the control group. Next, the teeth were segmented and analysed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The magnification was used to evaluate and score the smear layer and debris. Statistical analysis was undertaken using the classic statistical software package (SPSS, version 28.0; SPSS IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Then, the data were interpreted with a non-parametric analysis of variance (Kruskal–Wallis ANOVA) among the experiment groups. The significance level was decided as p < 0.05. In addition, statistically significant (p < 0.05) lower mean smear layer and debris scores were found in both the examination groups compared to the control group. Results: group 1 demonstrated better results compared to group 2 in terms of cleaning the dentinal walls. Conclusions: The current research concluded that the EDTA 3D cleaning technique is an effective irrigation technique for clearing debris and smear layers in the post space. Future research, such as on push-out bond strength, should be used to verify this research’s conclusions. Key findings: The use of ultrasonically activated heated EDTA improved the smear layer removal. The use of the 3D cleaning technique resulted in better post space cleaning.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of root canal cleaning protocol prior to cementation of Ribbon post and its influence on bond strength values between it and root dentin.Material and methods: 24 freshly extracted human maxillary incisors were used in this study They were decapitated to make length in all teeth=13 mm, root canal treated and prepared to receive a post. Teeth were then divided into 4 equal groups (n = 6) according to the irrigating solution used: group (I): Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA), group (II): Sodium hypochlorite, group (III): chlorhexidine and group (IV): saline. Teeth were then mounted in acrylic blocks and sectioned horizontally perpendicular to their long axis to obtain a coronal, middle and apical section from each root. Specimens were then subjected to the push-out test using a universal testing machine at a cross-head speed of 1mm/min. Results:It was revealed that EDTA solution had the highest bond strength of ribbond post to dentin wall. Conclusions:EDTA was better than other solutions for cleaning of post space when using ribbon fiber posts. The coronal and middle of the root canal presented better bond strength values when compared to the apical section of the root canal.
