Evaluation of the Bonding Strength between Various Dental Zirconia Models and Human Teeth for Dental Posts through In Vitro Aging Tests

Abstract: In dentistry, root canal treatment reduces support of the tooth, making it necessary to insert a cylindrical body into the treated tooth to strengthen the crown. In the past, metal or fiberglass was often used. However, metal is too different in color from teeth, so the esthetics are poor, and fiberglass is not as strong as metal. Therefore, an alternative is zirconia, which has the characteristics of high light transmittance, esthetics, good biocompatibility, and high breaking strength. The surface morphology… Show more

“…These factors can affect the bonding surfaces between a dental restoration and a tooth, reducing their long-term stability. 13 In order to make the test results of materials more consistent with clinical results, many studies simulate the environment in the oral cavity through thermal cycles between hot and cold. 14 , 15 This helped assess the long-term utility of the adhesive strength between the overlay and residual enamel through the aging test.…”

“…Post and crown are dental rehabilitation options for dental organs extensively damaged [1]. Posts could be metallic [2], ceramic [3] or fiber reinforced composite [4]. The glass fiber posts (GFPs) are the most frequently used posts nowadays as they have elastic moduli that share similar to dentin [5,6].…”

“…Tooth decay is also known as the most common chronic disease in the world [10][11][12]. Although tooth enamel cannot be naturally repaired, several approaches have been utilized to artificially repair tooth enamel, including dental bonding, veneers, crowns, and remineralization [13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. For dental bonding, a dental resin is attached to the tooth surface to repair the enamel erosion and protect the intact tooth surface [20].…”
