Evaluation of the Antioxidant Potential and Antioxidant Enzymes of Some Yemeni Grape Cultivars

Abstract: Objective: The evaluation of antioxidant activity of grape from different cultivars was conducted by several methods. Materials and Methods: Scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, scavenging of 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzo-thiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) and formation of phosphate/molybdenum complex. Results: The phenolic content of peel and flesh from different cultivars of grapes showed concentration dependent scavenging of DPPH and ABTS radicals and formation of phosphate/ molybdenum… Show more

“…Phenolic acid contains the major phenol containing groups which are served as a primary source of antioxidant or free radical scavenger, while polyphenols act as an antioxidant terminator by scavenging free radicals to form stable one. [ 28 29 ] In current findings, it was confirmed that phenol and flavonoids are present in G. dulcis rind extract, which are responsible for scavenging free radicals in various antioxidant models.…”

“…4 Flavonoid such as catechin and epicatechin are known to have antioxidant effects, antimicrobial and bactericidal activity. 18 Decreased plasma urea and creatinine levels due to presence flavonoids and tannins contained in WPIL might be an important role as antioxidant functions. 19 The previous study has found that WPIL contained epicatechin.…”
