Evaluation of the Antibacterial and Antioxidant properties of the Methanolic extracts of four Medicinal plants selected from Wadi Al-Karak, Jordan related to their Phenolic contents

Abstract: In this study, the methanolic extracts from four medicinal plants (Sarcopoterium spinosum, Paronychia argentea, Inula viscosa, and Achillea fragrantissima) were tested in vitro for antibacterial and antioxidant properties. The antibacterial properties of these MPEs were assessed using disc diffusion and Serial dilution techniques. The antioxidant properties were evaluated by DPPH and FRAP methods. The total phenolic compounds were measured according to Folin-Ciocalteu method. Differences were found among the t… Show more

“…Research into microbial phenol breakdown has developed considerably, resulting in the isolation, development, acclimation, and selection of some bacteria that can live solely on organic pollutants for carbon and energy. However, insufficient attempts have been taken to mitigate their harmful influence on the environment [ 58 , 59 ].…”

“…The standard wounds are fixed in a few days, whereas long-lasting wounds are a big problem because of financial and community factors. Because of this, it is important to find new natural products that work better and cost less [ 42 , 43 ]. Moreover, Diabetes can cause an interruption in the healing process or increase the probability of infection in the wounded area, leading to long hospitalization [ 44 ].…”

“…In this study, dichloromethane solvents were used as a midpolar solvent for extraction of polyphenols and other midpolar phytochemicals. Several assays (DPPH radical scavenging assay, hydroxyl radical assay, hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging assay, ferric reducing power, and total determination of favonoid and phenolic contents, among others) have been developed for the determination of in vitro nonenzymatic antioxidant activities of medicinal plants [69,70].…”
