Evaluation of the Antibacterial Activity of Calcium Alginate Beads Modified With Ethanolic Extract of Adhatoda Vasica Leaf Extract on Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli

Abstract: Objective: The objective of the present study was to investigate the antibacterial activity of calcium alginate (Ca-ALG) loaded with ethanolic extract of Adhatoda vasica (A. vasica) leaves against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Methods: Ca-ALG beads containing ethanolic extract of A. vasica leaves were developed by ionic gelation technique. The prepared Ca-ALG beads were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Th… Show more

“…Figure c,f presents the morphologies of CFB and POB at 10 000× magnification with 5 μm, which showed coarse surfaces; however, CFB had a smoother surface than POB, which might depend on the plant species. It was similarly found in other studies, which formed bead material from different extracted plant leaves (Adhtoda vasica) …”

“…The broadband at 3300 cm −1 was assigned with the typical stretching vibrations indicated the presence of hydroxyl groups (-OH) of [41,42] and was connected with inter-and intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The small bands at around 2931cm −1 and 2889cm −1 were assigned with symmetric and asymmetric stretching vibrations of C-H [37][38][39][40] from methylene groups.…”
