Evaluation of staygreen sunflower lines and their hybrids for yield under drought conditions

Abstract: The experimental material for the present study comprised of 28 inbred lines (including two checks) which were developed by mutation and hybridization among the lines from AICRP trials MARS, UAS, Dharwad and on the basis of SPAD readings and stay green nature, they were considered as drought tolerant lines. These lines were used for the present experiment and were evaluated under both normal and moisture stress condition in rain out shelter to study their root characteristics. Among 28 inbreds evaluated, eight… Show more

“…This indicates specific combinations of lines and testers influencing trait expression, highlighting the importance of evaluating specific hybrids rather than individual lines and testers. This aligns with previous research by Hilli and Immadi (2021), Bohra et al (2022), Memon et al (2015), Mehmood (2021), Ashraf et al (2015), and Shyam Sundar et al (2021),.…”

“…Short oats, or Avena brevis, are grown in South Europe as green fodder. Oats suits to a wide range of soil with good water holding capacity but high N content in soil is not a desirable condition as it may lead to lodging (Hilli and Immadi, 2022;Hilli, 2021;Hilli and Immadi, 2021). It grows best in cool and moist climates which is important during grain filling for high yield.…”

“…Agricultural productivity can be reduced by 50 to 70 percent as a result of abiotic stress, which has a substantial influence on the growth and development of crop plants. 23,24,25 The release of greenhouse gases from diverse sources (global warming) is one of the factors assumed to be responsible for the steady increase in global average temperature. This alters the pattern of precipitation, which in turn leads to irregular drought or flood stress.…”
