Evaluation of Stability of Embankment Constructed on Soft Consolidating Soil with Lime–CFG Composite Column System

Abstract: Effectiveness of providing lime and CFG composite column system on the safety factor of embankment constructed on consolidating soil is studied at different time intervals during consolidation of foundation soil. The effectiveness of providing composite column system is compared with the effectiveness of providing only lime or CFG columns. In addition, the effectiveness of composite column system on settlement of foundation soil and consolidation process is also investigated. Embankment, foundation soil and co… Show more

“…Nonetheless, these strategies have considerable downsides due to the potential for adverse environmental repercussions. Over the last decade, significant research has been conducted on applying natural and artificial materials as appropriate materials with more improvement strategies to improve the geotechnical qualities of expansive soils [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] . These stabilising techniques are promising, environmentally friendly, and sustainable soil improvements in engineering properties.…”

“…Liu et al [23] gave a simplified method for calculating the settlement of a composite foundation consolidation used plum blossom pile layout scheme and based on an axisymmetric consolidation model with a combination of powder jetting piles and drainage board. Prakash and Krishnamoorthy [24] investigated the effect of lime and CFG pile composite foundations on the factor of safety of embankments at different time intervals during the consolidation of foundations. Yang et al [25] derived the controlling equations for the average pore pressure of the soil around a composite foundation of long rigid piles and impervious short piles under ramp loading based on the assumption of equal vertical strain and established the corresponding resolution based on the onedimensional consolidation theory of double-layered foundations.…”
