Evaluation of space closure rate during canine retraction with nickel titanium closed coil spring and elastomeric chain.

Abstract: Aims:. To investigate the rates of space closure achieved by elastomeric chain and nickel titanium coil springs with the evaluation of the effects of using different bracket types on the rate of space closure during its retraction along different sizes of orthodontic arch wires using typodont simulation system (Ormco). Materials and Methods: The standardization criteria were all typodont teeth situated in well aligned position, covered and immobilized by the acrylic bite except canine, elastic chain and nickel… Show more

“…Any procedure which reduces the time required to retract canine will also serve to shorten overall treatment time. Reducing the duration of orthodontic treatment is of great interest to orthodontists 15,16,17 . In context of Bangladesh, there is no study regarding space closure rate in canine retraction by any force system.…”

“…Canine tip in right side ( trial group ) was moved 2 mm more than left side (control group ) while canine apex in right side was moved 1.3 more than left side . Although canine was ligated with stainless-steel ligature wire , This difference between canine tip and apex movement is due to long roots of canine and its morphology which make it impossible to retract the canine without tipping as stated withBabu SH (2005 )26 .Conclusion Acceleration of canine movement canbe done with discision due to osteopenia that had happened in bone after discision that lead to less resistance to canine movement during retraction thus need less time than conventional rtraction without discision…”
