Evaluation of some Thiazolidinone derivatives for antibacterial activities against different gram negative and gram positive bacterial strains

Abstract

Thiazolidinones, belong to an important group of heterocyclic compounds. These compounds have been extensively explored for their pharmacological applications. In present study we have taken an attempt to evaluate some newly synthesized thiazolidinones against different gram positive and gram negative bacteria using DMF and DMSO as solvent systems. It was observed that DMF is efficient compared to DMSO. Further, S. typhimurium was found most resistant strain. The compound containing 3-nitrobenzaldehyde was found to be most effective in inhibiting the tested bacterial strains and it was concluded that the activity largely depends upon the pharmacophore of the compound, strain to be tested and the solvent system used.
