The paper analyzes some specific iconographic Indus seals. The readings of the text exhibit a remarkable correlation between the text and the iconography of the seals. These seals signify not only the diseases and their symptoms but also the medicinal plants used in their treatment. The spelling rules of the alphabet have been followed meticulously, indicating the importance attached to the accuracy of the information provided in these seals.The iconographic Indus seals provide valuable evidence of the earliest documentation of Ayurveda. These seals signify the knowledge and importance attached to healthcare in the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, highlighting the holistic approach towards medicine and healthcare prevalent during that era. This paper sheds light on the specific function of these seals in indicating diseases, symptoms, and medicines, highlighting the intricate relationship between the script and iconography on the seals. The evidence presented in this paper supports the notion that the Indus seals constitute a valuable resource for the study of the early history of medicine and the origins of Ayurveda.

Las plantas ornamentales además de embellecer, tienen utilidad medicinal, melífera, entomológica y ambiental, sin embargo, los estudios que se realizan en este grupo son poco representativos. El objetivo fue evaluar la diversidad y la percepción social sobre la flora ornamental presente en fincas suburbanas de Santiago de Cuba y sus potencialidades para generar bienes y servicios a escala comunitaria. Seleccionadas las fincas se realizaron muestreos para establecer la composición y diversidad de ornamentales evaluando la Riqueza de especies, Dominancia de Simpson y Diversidad general, en los períodos poco lluvioso y lluvioso. Luego se aplicaron entrevistas a personas vinculadas con la producción o uso de especies ornamentales. Se encontraron 6778 individuos pertenecientes a 36 familias, 52 géneros y 57 especies. La composición botánica fue variable tendiendo al aumento de un período al otro, siendo las familias Amaryllidaceae, Asteraceae, Araceae y Euphorbiaceae las que más contribuyeron. La riqueza varió entre 1 y 24 especies reportándose la mayor en la finca La Esperanza para ambos períodos. Los valores de dominancia estuvieron dentro del rango establecido, aunque la tendencia fue al aumento con la llegada de la lluvia, influenciada por el 26,31 % de las especies que fueron las más abundantes. La diversidad general varió entre 0 y 2,7720 disminuyendo con el cambio de período; sin embargo en las fincas Tres Palmas, La Juliana y La Sorpresa no se obtuvieron valores dentro del rango establecido. Existe buena percepción social sobre este grupo de plantas y mejorar su disponibilidad fue reconocido como una necesidad.

Background Colocasia gigantea, Caladium bicolor and Xanthosoma sagittifolium are three worldwide famous ornamental and/or vegetable plants in the Araceae family, these species in the subfamily Aroideae are phylogenetically perplexing due to shared interspecific morphological traits and variation. Result This study, for the first time ever, assembled and analyzed complete chloroplast genomes of C. gigantea, C. bicolor and X. sagittifolium with genome sizes of 165,906 bp, 153,149 bp and 165,169 bp in length, respectively. The genomes were composed of conserved quadripartite circular structures with a total of 131 annotated genes, including 8 rRNA, 37 tRNA and 86 protein-coding genes. A comparison within Aroideae showed seven protein-coding genes (accD, ndhF, ndhK, rbcL, rpoC1, rpoC2 and matK) linked to environmental adaptation. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed a close relationship of C. gigantea with C. esculenta and S. colocasiifolia, and the C. bicolor with X. sagittifolium. Furthermore, three DNA barcodes (atpH-atpI + psaC-ndhE, atpH-atpI + trnS-trnG, atpH-atpI + psaC-ndhE + trnS-trnG) harbored highly variable regions to distinguish species in Aroideae subfamily. Conclusion These results would be beneficial for species identification, phylogenetic relationship, genetic diversity, and potential of germplasm resources in Aroideae.
