Evaluation of sodium isobutyl xanthate as a collector in the froth flotation of a carbonatitic copper ore

Abstract: The dosage of a collector is an important factor that determines the efficiency of a froth flotation process. The representative sample of the carbonatitic Palabora copper ore ground 45 % passing 75 lm was froth-floated with sodium isobutyl xanthate (SIBX) collector at 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 g/t dosages. The concentrates and tails were dried and analysed. The results obtained showed that the highest recovery of 85.18 % with a grade of 12.61 % was obtained at the 80 g/t dosage. It was further observed that the … Show more

“…Kondisi ini dapat menimbulkan bahaya yang signifikan terhadap K3LK dan lingkungan hidup. [20][21][22] Langkah utama dalam proses pengolahan bijih mineral ini terdiri dari proses penghancuran, penggilingan, pengapungan, dan pengeringan. Perubahan ukuran bijih menjadi partikel halus untuk melepaskan elemen yang mengandung tembaga dan emas diselesaikan dalam langkah penghancuran dan penggilingan akhir.…”

“…The results support the increased recoveries affecting the grade of the minerals recovered. The high grade recovered is attained by the collector's ability to be adsorbed onto the desired mineral, they essentially form a layer of nonpolar hydrophobic hydrocarbons which are bubbled out during flotation (Mpongo & Siame, 2006;Langa et al, 2014;Kawatra, 2011). This means that the bubbles in the froth are too large and sweep the particles past without coming into contact.…”

“…Solutions of specific concentrations were obtained by dissolving the following reagents in tap water: tannic acid (60 mg/dm 3 ), 2-octanol (450 mg/dm 3 ), tannic acid (60 mg/dm 3 ) + 2-octanol (450 mg/dm 3 ), dimethoxy dipropyleneglycol (450 mg/dm 3 ), tannic acid (60 mg/dm 3 ) + dimethoxy dipropyleneglycol (450 mg/dm 3 ), calcium oleate (60 mg/dm 3 ), sodium xanthate (60 mg/dm 3 ). The given reagents were selected based on the articles by Han et al Ximei et al and Langa et al (Han et al 2018;Ximei et al 2017;Langa et al 2014). The pH values of the presented solutions were 7.…”
