Evaluation of short‐ and long‐term efficacy of chemoradiotherapy for advanced cervical cancer using HSP70 protein combined with multimodal MRI

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of chemoradiotherapy for advanced cervical cancer using heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) combined with multimodal MRI. The protein expressions of HSP70 in biopsy specimens obtained from 101 patients with cervical cancer were detected by immunohistochemistry. Plain MRI scan, DWI, DCE-MR, and MRS were performed before and after a period of 6 months of chemoradiotherapy. All patients were assigned into the complete response (CR) and partial response (PR) groups. HSP70 protein… Show more

“…However, before high-level evidence is obtained, the application of these methods requires an individualized evaluation. New imaging techniques, such as T2weighted imaging (T2W1) plus apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mapping (50,51) and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) mapping (52), could also be incorporated in follow-up protocols to verify their efficacy. Although specific and sensitive biomarkers are not available for cervical cancer, an elevated CA-125 or SCCAg level remains a cause for concern and facilitated the detection of recurrence in 12.88% of patients, which is greater than the proportion discovered by cytology or chest X-ray examination, according to a previous report by Guo et al (53).…”

“…HSP70 is a common molecular chaperone that is expressed in the membranous organelles of all cells. It is mainly involved in protein synthesis and processing [33][34][35]. Under normal circumstances, HSP70 expression is relatively low; however, under the conditions of protein damage caused by heat shock and hypoxia, HSP70 protein may be regulated by the PI3K/AKT/NRF2 pathway, and its expression is increased [36,37].…”

“…3 Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer. There has also been significant improvement in screening, 4-8 diagnosis, [9][10][11] treatment, [12][13][14][15] and even chemoprevention [16][17][18] for cervical cancer. In the past decade, much effort has been made in China to reduce the burden of cervical cancer.…”
