Evaluation of sequential effect of isotretinoin on the haematological parameters in patients with acne vulgaris

Abstract: Although some changes occur in haematological parameters during isotretinoin therapy, all of these changes remain within the normal range. Evaluating the spot values at any time during treatment may cause misinterpretations.

“…Similar to the findings of Gencoglan et al [17], our patient also had thrombocytosis after one month of treatment with isotretinoin. Yet, unlike their findings, the platelet count only returned to baseline after one month of therapy discontinuation, rather than after completing the course of treatment as reported by Gencoglan et al [17].…”

“…Platelet count increased in the 1st month of the treatment and then it decreased. MCV increased at the end of the treatment (27). Seckin et al investigated the effect of isotretinoin on inflammatory markers and hematological parameters.…”

“…We did not find any studies which used CBC parameters or MHR ratio between acne patients and HCs. In a few recent studies, CBC parameters have been considered as pre‐treatment and post‐treatment inflammation marker in acne patients using isotretinoin 23‐26 . In one study, pre‐treatment and post‐treatment MHR ratios of patients using isotretinoin were examined and it was reported that isotretinoin treatment increases MHR.…”

“…In a few recent studies, CBC parameters have been considered as pre-treatment and post-treatment inflammation marker in acne patients using isotretinoin. [23][24][25][26] In one study, pre-treatment and post-treatment MHR ratios of patients using isotretinoin were examined and it was reported that isotretinoin treatment increases MHR. It has been reported that although other inflammatory parameters decreased with isotretinoin treatment, there was an increase in MHR ratio and that this increase could be an indicator of inflammation-induced atherosclerosis risk.…”
