Evaluation of Scale and Corrosion Inhibition of Modified Polyaspartic Acid

Abstract: Amino acid modified polyaspartic acids were evaluated as calcium-scale inhibitors. Feasibility of scale inhibition experiments was analyzed by molecular dynamics simulation and Gaussian optimization, and the scale inhibition mechanism was theoretically analyzed. Scale inhibition performance was studied by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, static scale inhibition experiments, and electrochemical performance testing, which provided an experimental basis for the mo… Show more

“…It is well-known that polyaspartic-acid-based amide linkage is widely used as green SI in industrial circulating cooling water and topside petroleum applications. Many research groups have synthesized and investigated antiscaling evaluation of modified polyaspartic acid for industrial cooling water systems at low temperatures. The main problem of polyaspartic acid derivatives is being not thermally stable under harsh reservoir conditions, affording short squeeze lifetimes. Polyaspartic acid can be applied in squeeze applications at only 85 °C .…”

“…6b and c show the XPS spectra of calcium carbonate scale O 1s generated after adding PESA and Arg‐PESA. The XPS spectra of O 1s of the calcium carbonate scale without adding scale inhibitors had been studied by Chen et al 24. The peaks at 531.26 and 531.7 eV indicated the presence of oxygen in calcium carbonate.…”

“…Protein materials can effectively reduce the incidence of scaling [11]. Chen et al [22][23][24] modified PASP with a variety of amino acids. At a low dosage, the modified product exhibited excellent scale and corrosion inhibition performance; they also had excellent dispersion ability for iron oxide.…”

“…Water treatment is an important technology to deal with the shortage of water resources [4][5][6]. Among various methods explored for water treatment, the circulating cooling water system is widely utilized in industrial processes [7,8]. However, scale deposition is one of the major problems in this system [9].…”
