Evaluation of robot automated drug dissolution measurements

Abstract: A controlled study was conducted to evaluate the feaslblllty of robotlc automatlon of routlne regulatory drug dlssolutlon measurements. A commercially available laboratory robot system automated a number of dlssolutlon analyses while concurrent manually acquired samples were analyzed by the same analytlcal method. Five welltharacterlzed drug tablet types were employed, lncludlng the two current "Unlted States Pharmacopeia" (USP) Method I I calibrators, These tablet types spanned a range of dlslntegratlon and d… Show more

“…Several analytical methods have been reported in the literature for the determination of paracetamol and p-aminophenol in pure form and pharmaceutical products such as fluorimetry [4,5], volumetry [6], Fourier transform infrared spectrometry [7], chromatography [8,9], flow injection [10], and several forms of spectrophotometry [11][12][13]. Recently, articles have been pub- 1 This article was submitted by the authors in English.…”

“…Many analytical methodologies, using both batch and flow modes, have been proposed for the determination of paracetamol, including titrimetry, 18 spectrophotometry (spectrofluorimetry, near infrared reflectance spectrometry, Raman spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry), [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26] chromatography, 27,28 chemiluminescence [29][30][31] and enzymatic analysis. 32,33 Electrochemical methods [34][35][36] are an attractive alternative, since they are fast, inexpensive, and can be adapted for portable, disposable and miniaturized applications.…”

“…Although these systems were introduced approximately 20 to 30 years ago [9], the state of the art fully automated dissolution test systems have seen minor improvements, and very few "new" automated dissolution systems have been introduced in the last 10 years [10][11][12]. Thus, demand has been building for a novel approach in designing a dissolution system which incorporates many of the advances that have been made in the last decade.…”
