Evaluation of Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness with Spectral Domain Oct in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

Abstract: Purpose:To compare Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG), Ocular Hypertension (OHT) and control groups by using Visual Field (VF) and Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT) and to investigate correlations between VF global indices and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (RNFL) thickness measurements. Methods: Forty patients with POAG, 55 patients with OHT, and 40 normal subjects were included in the study. All subjects were evaluated by standard automated perimetry and Cirrus HD-OCT.Results: RNFL global avera… Show more

“…More studies showed the importance of the OCT evaluation in the early diagnosis of glaucoma [5,6,7,8]. Sahli and co-workers [6], in a comparative study that included 40 glaucoma patients, 55 intraocular hypertension patients and 40 normal subjects, following the evaluation of the retinal nerve fiber layer using OCT, found that the global thickness and on the sectors of the retinal nerve fiber layers was significantly lower as compared to those patients with intraocular hypertension and normal subjects. He also found that there was a positive correlation between the thickness of the RNFL and the visual field results.…”
