Evaluation of responsiveness and estimation of smallest detectable change and minimal important change scores for the Childhood Atopic Dermatitis Impact Scale

Abstract: Summary Background The Childhood Atopic Dermatitis Impact Scale (CADIS) is an instrument to measure quality of life in young children affected by atopic dermatitis, and their parents. Objectives To evaluate the responsiveness (sensitivity to change), smallest detectable change (SDC) and minimal important change (MIC) of the CADIS. Methods Parents and primary caregivers of 300 young children completed the CADIS and a global rating of their child's skin condition at baseline and a 4‐week follow‐up. Kruskal–Walli… Show more

“…Credible MIDs for the Acne-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (Acne-QoL) are available (eTable 2 in the Supplement). For atopic dermatitis, robust MIDs have been put forward for the Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) in children and the Childhood Atopic Dermatitis Impact Scale (CADIS) (Table 3). In adolescents, 3 studies reported on the MID of POEM, though the credibility cannot be confirmed as correlation data were missing .…”

“…The recall period is the last 4 weeks and the questionnaire can be completed in approximately 6 min (125). Whilst it does not have score band descriptors, the MCID is considered to be a 12% change from the total score or a 12% change from any of the individual domains (126). FROM-16 has 16 questions and can be used to assess the QoL of any adult member of the family of a patient of any age with any disease.…”
