“…Weber et al 2002Weber et al , 2004Weber et al , 2005Weber et al , 2006 broadly confirmed the earlier conclusions (e.g. Konopatsky 1982:70-80;Mamonova and Sulerzhitsky 1989:28-31).…”

“…I would note in response that 1 14 C value for Ust'-Ida I was published by Mamonova and Sulerzhitsky (1989:22, listed as Ust'-Uda; see above), and was already mentioned in other papers (e.g. Weber 1995:139;Weber et al 2005Weber et al :1487. In Naumova et al (1997), 7 other 14 C dates for the Ust'-Ida I cemetery were also presented (see above).…”

“…Because we needed 1 mg of collagen for each run on the mass spectrometer, in some cases we had to combine collagen from successive serial sections to reach this amount. We rejected a small number of sections because they did not produce C=N ratios in the acceptable range of 2.9 to 3.6, indicating degraded collagen (DeNiro, 1985;van Klinken, 1999;Weber et al, 2005). Overall, we averaged between 7 and 8 serial sections with adequate collagen preservation per tooth across the 17 individuals included in the study.…”

“…In addition, two 14 C-AMS dates were obtained on bone samples from the newly discovered Tolbor 21 site , Gladyshev et al, 2013. Samples were selected for dating when showing a satisfying amount of collagen yield (>1%) (Ambrose, 1990,Weber et al, 2005Hublin et al, 2012) and C:N between 2.9 and 3.5 (Klinken, 1999). The samples were pretreated at MPI-EVA Leipzig using the method described in Talamo and Richards (2011).…”
