Eco-friendly composite made of Timoho Fiber (TF) continuously developed to get the best performance to replace plastic-based synthetic fibers. This study focuses on investigating physical characteristics, mechanical properties, thermal analysis, and the morphology of TF-reinforced polyester composites by adding organic (egg shell powder-ESP) and inorganic (aluminum powder-AP) fillers. Hot press method was used in the composite fabrication with considered volume fraction of TF, organic, and inorganic fillers. The results showed that the density of TF-polyester composites decreases with the increasing volume fraction of the fibers. For additional fillers, it was shown that AP was more effective to be used to improve density than ESP. The tensile and impact strength of the composite increased with increasing TF volume. However, the addition of ESP and AP fillers into the composite caused different mechanical characteristics. Filler addition increased the elasticity modulus, toughness, thermal resistance increased, while the tensile strength decreased. ESP and AP fillers provided the best thermal resistance due to the relatively high thermal conductivity of ±1700 C compared to composites without fillers and amorphous ESP fillers. SEM observation supported the analysis of TF-polyester composite mechanical characteristics.

Calotropis procera fiber (CPF) is the fruit fiber of C. procera and belongs to a typical cellulosic fiber. In this study, Calotropis procera fiber (CPF) was first purified in the pretreatment process including delignification and bleaching before the isolation of cellulose nanocrystal. Chemical composition of Calotropis procera fiber was determined according to TAPPI standard method. It was composed of 64.0 wt% cellulose, 19.5 wt% hemicelluloses, and 9.7 wt% of lignin. The morphology of the Calotropis procera fiber and fiber after each pretreatment process was also investigated. Cellulose nanocrystal was extracted by classical sulfuric acid hydrolysis of the pretreated Calotropis procera fiber. TEM and SEM were used to analyze the morphologies of the obtained CNC. The crystallinity, thermal stability and suspension stability of the CNC were also investigated. The interesting results proved that this under-utilized biomass could be exploited as a new source of cellulose raw material for the production of cellulose nanocrystal. which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided you give appropriate credit to the original author(s) and the source, provide a link to the Creative Commons license, and indicate if changes were made. Date palm, the most important tree in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, produces a huge amount of waste yearly in the form of fibrous materials, dried fruits, and seeds. Such waste is a great source of excellent degradable biomass that can be used in numerous applications as natural fiber composites, active carbon precursors, and even nano-featured sheets. That rich resource is yearly burned on date palm farms due to the lack of effective processing strategies. This review offers a scientific evaluation for date palm waste in terms of specifications and applications, and it proposes pre-treatment processes to produce fibrous and powder raw materials to be used in some engineering and industrial applications. Additionally, some possible advanced industrial applications, such as active carbon and natural fiber composites, will be discussed and reviewed.
