Evaluation of Prognostic Factors Associated With Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma With Pulmonary Metastasis

Abstract: Patients with DTC with pulmonary metastasis have a relatively favorable prognosis and response rate, as well as longer survival. The type of DTC is the only factor that affects the response to treatment.

“…In many kinds of cancer, bone metastasis generally has a relatively indolent course and good prognosis [24][25][26], but it was not the same for lung metastasis. Fortunately, as reported by some authors, pulmonary metastasis from TC may also have a good prognosis [22,27]. In this study, there were no differences in survival between lung and brain metastases.…”

“…Distant metastasis in DTC was relatively rare and has been regarded as the poor prognostic factor ( 5 ). It has been demonstrated that the 10-year overall survival (OS) rate of DTC patients with pulmonary metastasis was <50%, much lower than that of DTC patients with no distant metastasis ( 6 ).…”

“…Additionally, patients may receive more frequent RTs and more quickly achieve cumulative activity of 22 GBq if the interval is short. It is con rmed that RT e cacy is mainly associated with the expression of NIS in patients who had been treated with a cumulative activity of 22 GBq, and the impairment of iodine uptake may cause delayed curative effects or disease progression [4,14]. One study reported that CR was more likely to be achieved when the metastatic lesion dose was > 80-100 Gy, but it was rare for dosimetry to show a dose > 20 Gy after cumulative activities of 20 GBq [15].…”
