Estimating the genotype-environment interaction (GEI) for potato genotype yield is very useful for the identification of outstanding genetic material that can adapt to specific environmental conditions and shows productive potential for breeding programs, selection processes and cultivar recommendations because it improves the efficiency of the genetic improvement process. The objective of this study was to determine the GEI of yield, expressed as t ha-1, in 21 potato genotypes. Four municipalities in the Department of Nariño were considered: Tangua, Pupiales, Imues, and Pasto. A randomized complete block design and an additive main effects and multiplicative interaction model (AMMI model) were used. Highly significant differences between the environments were found across the genotypes and GEI. Of the total variation, 42.43% was explained by the environment, 13.84% by the genotypes, and 15.49% by the GEI. The genotypes that showed stable behaviors were UdenarStGua55, UdenarStGua78, UdenarStGua24, UdenarStGua61, UdenarStGua20, and UdenarStGua98. Genotypes UdenarStGua78 and UdenarStGua98 stood out with 53.49 and 48.42 t ha-1 . Furthermore, genotypes UdenarStGua93, UdenarStGua97, and UdenarStGua91 showed a positive interaction with the environments of Tangua and Pupiales. Similarly, genotypes UdenarStGua58, UdenarStGua83, UdenarStGua57, and UdenarStGua87 positively interacted with Pasto, while genotypes UdenarStGua78 and UdenarStGua98 showed positive interactions with Imues. The genotypes displayed different behaviors in response to the areas where they were established, which varied in altitude, soil type, and environmental conditions.

Potato is one of Türkiye’s strategic crops regarding food and economic benefits. However, the need for well-adapted and productive varieties is a production problem for the country. Therefore, evaluating such varieties with high yield potential and suitable for local environmental conditions is essential. Thus, this study was conducted to select potato varieties with good agronomic characteristics suitable for high-altitude regions such as Erzurum province in 2022. In the study, 12 potato varieties, seven local (Bahar, Kaya, Kafkas, Petek, Taş, Ayaz, Deniz) and five fixed (Pomqueen, Alegria, Marabel, Agria, and Marfona) were used as plant material. It was established according to the "Randomized Blocks" experimental design with three replications. The study's results revealed that the cultivars significantly affected all the variables. The highest plant height was recorded in the Pomqueen (89.6 cm) and Kaya (85.5 cm) varieties, while Kaya had the highest number of stems per hill (6.1 pieces). Concerning yield and yield components, the highest number of tubers per hill was recorded in Ayaz (17.5 pieces), while the highest tuber yield per hill and total tuber yield were recorded in Petek (1287.1 g and 5251.5 kg da-1). This variety was followed by standard Alegria (4497.5 kg da-1) and local Kaya (4441.0 kg da-1) varieties in total tuber yield. Therefore, considering the yield potential, especially local Petek and Kaya and standard varieties Alegria and Marabel were promising and recommended to growers in regions with high altitudes and similar agroecology.

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a crop with the potential of ensuring food and nutrition security in Ethiopia because it yields more edible energy, protein and dry matter per unit area and time than cereal crops. In Ethiopia, potato varieties were developed mainly to fit preparation of traditional foods. However, French fries and chips are the emerging products of tubers that demanded breeders to identify cultivars fit to the emerging economics of production until specific varieties are developed for specific end products. This study was conducted with the aim of identifying wide adaptable potato varieties for internal quality of tubers, and to determine stability, coheritability and correlation among traits. A total of 17 improved and two farmers' cultivars namely, Jarso and Bete were evaluated in three locations from 2012 to 2014 using a randomized complete block design with three replications. Specific gravity and starch content of tubers were significantly influenced by the interaction of cultivar x location x seasonwhile dry matter was significantly affected only by cultivar, location and growing season. The 15 improved varieties produced tubers with >1.08 gcm -3 ,>23% and >13%specific gravity, dry matter and starch content, respectively, that were suitable for French fries and chips processing, but the two farmers' cultivars (Jarso and Bete) with tubers <1.080 gcm -3 specific gravity and <20% dry matter content failed to be processed into French fries and chips. Bubu and Gera were relatively more stable varieties in producing tubers with uniform specific gravity, dry matter and starch content across environments. The other four varieties (Belete, Gudanie, Chirro, and Gorebela) produced tubers with high mean values for all the traits that may be considered for French fries and chips making. Tubers dry matter and starch contents were highly expressed by specific gravity (R 2 >0.96) with strong correlation (r>0.98) and high coheritability (>79.85%) of traits with specific gravity. Moreover, high coheritability was observed (86.65%) for the three traits as covariate. This suggests that tuber specific gravity is an appropriate measurement in selection of varieties to determine the internal quality of tubers for processing. The significant effect of genotype x environment interaction on specific gravity and starch content suggests the importance of testing varieties across locations over years to identify high performing and widely adaptable varieties to benefit producers, processors and other consumers.
