Evaluation of Prevent ID and Quantum Blue rapid tests for fecal calprotectin

Abstract: The Quantum Blue calprotectin rapid test demonstrated better analytical performance than the Prevent ID CalDetect in reducing the number of colonoscopies. Furthermore, the former test has the advantage of using a point of care reader for quantitative measurement and for establishing an optimal cut-off level.

“…These in turn imply sensitivities and specificities. In the main these correspond with those of Hessells et al, 98 although there is some very minor disagreement of the order of 1% for a few of the percentages. l vary the prevalence of IBD within the presenting patient population from the base case 48% to 40% and 60% l vary the time to re-presentation among false negatives from the base case 12 weeks to 8 weeks and 16 weeks l change the source of utility estimates from Stark et al 124 and CG61 35 to Gregor et al, 133 Poole et al…”

“…Hessells et al 98 compared two rapid tests, Quantum Blue and PreventID CalDetect, using the laboratory quantitative time-resolved fluorimetric immunoassay (TRFIA) as the gold standard, using a cut-off of 50 µg/g ( Table 31). The PreventID is a rapid semiquantitative test, with lines: negative, < 15 µg/g, has two lines; positive, > 60 µg/g, has four lines, and indeterminate, 15-60 µg/g, has three lines.…”
