Evaluation of Pollutant Emissions into the Atmosphere during the Loading of Hydrocarbons in Marine Oil Tankers in the Arctic Region

Abstract: Emissions of volatile organic compounds into the atmosphere when loading oil or petroleum products into tankers are strong environmental pollutants. Given the increase in oil transport by sea and the development of Arctic routes, humanity faces the task of preserving the Arctic ecosystem. Vapor recovery units can limit the emissions of volatile organic compounds. However, it is necessary to estimate the emissions of oil and petroleum products vapors. This article offers two methods for estimating emissions of … Show more

“…The ESG concept is one of the important pillars as it complements the traditional SD model and reflects new requirements towards responsible investment and governmental regulation. Examples of ESG information include the environmental dimension (pollution, biodiversity loss, greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, renewable energy, energy efficiency [124]); the social dimension (quality of life, well-being, diversity, equality, employee relations, and human capital management), and the governance dimension (internal controls, regulations, board of directors, diversity, independence, information transparency, and risk management) [125][126][127][128][129].…”

“…One of the most promising areas of the Arctic continental shelf for the production of natural gas is the territory of the Barents Sea with the Shtokmanovskoye, Ludlovsky and Ledovoye fields. Central Europe is expected to become the main consumer [18,29]. To decide on choosing the most profitable technology for transporting natural gas from the Barents Sea to Central Europe, it is necessary to compare the cost of transporting liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas.…”

“…Environmental odour is an increasing environmental problem involving several industrial plants [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Refineries are one of the categories most affected by the emission of odorous compounds, in particular volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulphur compounds, arising mainly from the operative process, the storage tanks, the transport pipelines, and the waste areas [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ]. Odour nuisance often raises concerns among the population living near these plants due to the common belief that malodorous emissions may negatively affect human health [ 10 , 11 ].…”
