Abstract: Four schemes parameterizing soil matric potential with different effects of pore ice were evaluated from a modeling perspective • Schemes with partial ice effects performed worse than those with both or no ice effects in simulating active layer dynamics • Scheme considering both effective porosity and cryosuction functioned best in simulating phase change and soil liquid content
