Evaluation of on–off semi-active vehicle suspension systems by using the hardware-in-the-loop approach and the software-in-the-loop approach

Abstract: Three controllers, namely the skyhook controller, the mixed-single-sensor controller and the groundhook controller, are compared using two validation approaches, namely the hardware-in-the-loop approach and the software-in-the-loop approach. The software-in-the-loop approach considers the dynamics (e.g. the body heave, the yaw, the roll, the pitch and the force) and the geometric parameters (the motion ratio of the suspension) without the real-time constraints. This allows an easier debugging and design proced… Show more

“…For this reason, the researchers would keep improving on the experiments and would implement Hardware-in-the-Loop tests in further works. Multiple approaches could be developed such as the ones proposed in [50] and [51] where Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Lop are integrated. Also, more accurate software, such as CarSim, is used to model the vehicle suspension dynamics and its nonlinearities.…”

“…For the experimental validation of the controller it is possible to employ an experimental quarter of vehicle (Exp-QoV) [16], Hardware in the Loop (HiL) [23][24][25][26] or a Vehicle (Exp-V) [27], where accelerometers and sensors are employed to obtain the information that will be processed by the controller in order to achieve the main objectives of the control strategy.…”
