Anatomical characteristics of the plantation tree, Cunninghamia lanceolata were studied. Clonal variability and intra-tree variation, as well as its possibilities of application to the wood industry were analyzed for four clones. Tracheid length from the first to 17th annual ring within clones increased rapidly at first, and then plateaued. The maximum value appeared at the 14th annual ring of clone IV (3795 μm), and the minimum value appeared at the 1st annual ring of clone I (849 μm). Tracheid width and tracheid double wall thickness increased first and then tended to be flat or slightly decreased; tracheid length to width ratio showed an overall increasing trend; the variation of tracheid double wall thickness was not significant. Between clones, the variation coefficient of tracheid width, double wall thickness, and wall to cavity ratio were large. The tissue proportion within clones from large to small was the following: tracheid proportion > wood ray proportion > parenchyma proportion, and there was no significant difference between clones. The basic density within clones showed a gradual increase but a certain fluctuation; the difference between clones was not significant. The maximum crystallinity appeared in clone II (sapwood 55.1%, heartwood 51.2%), and the difference between clones was not significant.

This research article examines the application of various methods to determine the effective elastic properties of beech veneer-wood composites. Using laminate theory, the theoretically calculated effective values of the in-plane and out-of-plane modulus of elasticity as well as shear modulus are compared with the values determined from the natural frequencies of flexural, torsional and longitudinal vibrations of samples having different orientations and numbers of composite layers. The samples are also modelled using the finite element method, and their natural frequencies are calculated by the modal analysis. Research has shown that the laminate theory, which is well established and applied in the world of synthetic composites, can also be applied to beech plywood composites, where the theoretically calculated effective values can be up to 15% higher. Similarly, due to the higher calculated effective elastic properties, higher natural frequencies of flexural, torsional and longitudinal vibrations are also calculated by the finite element method.

V raziskavi smo primerjali vrednosti dinamičnega in statičnega modula elastičnosti 7- in 11-slojne vezane plošče z različnimi kombinacijami usmeritve tkiva posameznih slojev furnirjev. Dinamični modul smo določili iz lastnih frekvenc prvega in drugega nihajnega načina nihanja, kjer smo uporabili Bernoulli-Eulerjevo enačbo, statični modul pa s 4-točkovnim upogibnim testom. Rezultati so pokazali, da ima vezana plošča največji modul elastičnosti pri usmeritvi tkiva zunanjega sloja 0°, nato pa z naraščanjem kota modul pada. Dinamični modul je od statičnega v povprečju za 12 % večji pri 7-slojnih ploščah in za 14 % pri 11-slojnih ploščah. Dinamični modul, določen iz druge lastne frekvence, je v primerih, kjer ni vpliva striga, enak modulu iz prve lastne frekvence, ko pa se pojavi vpliv striga, se modul zniža. Iz omenjene raziskave lahko potrdimo, da sta tako statični kot tudi dinamični način določanja modula elastičnosti vzorcev vezane plošče ustrezna, vendar pa je treba pri dinamičnem načinu preveriti vpliv striga.
