Evaluation of metabolic syndrome in adults of Talca city, Chile

Abstract: Objective-: Insulin resistance (IR) is an important risk factor for type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). “…According to data reviewed, the weighted mean prevalence of MS in the Latin-American countries analysed (24?9 %) was higher than that reported in developed countries (19,20) . In fact, in eight of the studies included in this analysis (24)(25)(26)(29)(30)(31)(32)34) , prevalence rates of MS are different in 1?5-20?0 % compared with those reported in the USA (21?8 %) and some European countries: Spain (24?7 %), Portugal (23?9 %) and Italy (24?1 %) (18,19,20,36,37) .
