Abstract: Our findings show that pasteurized bone grafts in combination with vascularized fibular grafts have improved outcomes and potential clinical indications.

“…Pasteurization is an alternative method to tumour-bearing bone treatment for reconstruction after the resection of a malignant bone tumour [2426, 2931]. In the current study, we used pasteurized autografts to reconstruct the pelvis after periacetabular malignant bone tumour resection; the mean MSTS score for patients with autograft and prosthesis in situ was 75.0% (range 60–86.6%) which was comparable to other reports (Table 2).…”

“…Pasteurization of the autograft is sufficient for killing all the tumour cells in the massive bone [29, 30, 32]. Local recurrence rates with pasteurized autograft use were not significantly different compared with prosthesis [26] and allograft [31].…”

“…There are many different conditions that make a tissue loss including massive traumatic injuries, cancers, and degenerative diseases. Tropical diseases could also be considered as the risk factors of inducing large tissue losses [1][2][3]. Some physiological conditions such as aging, obesity and repeated pregnancies are also other predisposing items which facilitate injury induction and may result in tissue losses [4].…”
