Evaluation of Infiltration of Immunological cells (Tumour Associated Tissue Eosinophils and Mast cells) in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma by Using Special Stains

Abstract: Aim: Our study aimed to evaluate the infiltration of tissue eosinophils and mast cells in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) by using special stains. Study Design: Comparative study.

“…Thus, a controversy still exists. [ 18 ] Till now, there are only few literature [ 18 19 20 ] in which both myeloid cells (Tumor-associated tissue eosinophils [TATE] and mast cells) has been observed in the OSCC. Hence, in search of new predictive factors for OSCC, our study aimed to evaluate the significance of tissue eosinophil and mast cell infiltration in different grades (WHO grading) of OSCC.…”

“…It is characterised by the presence of eosinophils as a component of peritumoral and intratumoral inflammatory infiltrate [ 7 , 8 ]. TATE in malignancies is associated with different sites such as nasopharynx [ 6 , 9 ], larynx [ 10 , 11 ], esophagus [ 12 ], colon [ 13 , 14 ], cervix [ 15 ], external genitalia [ 16 ], skin [ 17 ], gastrointestinal tract [ 18 ], and oral cavity [ 7 , 8 , 16 , 19 27 ].…”

“…[11] Stromal response usually characterized by the intensity of lymphoplasmacytic infiltration surrounding the tumor plays a decisive role in tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis. [8,12] Increase in the number of eosinophils above 450/cu mm is regarded as eosinophilia. It is often produced as response rather than the actual disease process.…”
