Evaluation of hyaluronic acid-P40 conjugated cream in a mouse model of dermatitis induced by oxazolone

Abstract: P40 is a particulate fraction or fragment isolated from Corynebacterium granulosum, which exhibits a wide spectrum of pharmacological functions including antitumor, antibacterial, phagocytic, antiviral and cytokine induction effects. In the present study, the immunomodulatory potential of P40-conjugated with hyaluronic acid was assessed in a mouse model of dermatitis induced by oxazolone. Oxazolone-induced allergic contact dermatitis is a T cell-mediated Th2-like hypersensitivity reaction, which mimics the cor… Show more

“…For instance, a variety of anti-inflammatory drugs, including hydrocortisone, prednisone, prednisolone and dexamethasone, have been conjugated to HA and investigated for intraarticular therapy of arthritis [166]. Furthermore, a recent study has displayed the potential of an emulsion containing a novel HA-P40 conjugate to treat a mouse model of dermatitis induced by oxazolone [180]. P40 is a particulate fragment isolated from Corynebacterium granulosum (actually known as Propionibacterium acnes ), which has immunomodulatory, antibacterial, antiviral and antitumor properties.…”

“…P40 is a particulate fragment isolated from Corynebacterium granulosum (actually known as Propionibacterium acnes ), which has immunomodulatory, antibacterial, antiviral and antitumor properties. The conjugation of P40 to HA successfully prevents its systemic absorption and, therefore, improves its topical therapeutic effect [180]. Other research has shown that conjugation of curcumin with HA represents a strategy to enhance the water solubility and stability of curcumin [181].…”

“…In a mouse model the topical application of p40, a particulate fraction from Corynebacterium granulosum , used in a formula with hyaluronic acid produced a significant reduction in ear thickness, weight, oedema, and leukocyte recruitment. These results suggest that p40-conjugated with hyaluronic acid may constitute an outstanding innovative dermatitis treatment [ 71 ].…”
