Evaluation of Glaucomatous Visual Field Loss with Locally Condensed Grids Using Fundus-Oriented Perimetry (FOP)

Abstract: Purpose We compared detection rates of glaucomatous visual field defects (VFDs) between a conventional rectangular stimulus grid and locally condensed test point arrangements in morphologically suspicious regions. Methods Humphrey Field Analyzer model 630 (HFA I, program 30-2 with a rectangular 6° × 6° grid) was used as the conventional perimetric method. Individual local test-point condensation was realized by fundus-oriented perimetry (FOP) on the Tuebingen Computer Campimeter (TCC). Results Of a total o… Show more

“…at the borders of scotomas) are a promising option for efficient delineation and follow-up of glaucomatous VF loss (Schiefer et al 2003b). An optimized grid was initially developed (Schiefer et al 2001a(Schiefer et al , 2001b(Schiefer et al , 2003a(Schiefer et al , 2003b) on a prototype campimeter, the Tu¨bingen computer campimeter (TCC) (Wabbels et al 1995). This test point arrangement was intended to reflect physiological VF characteristics (such as distribution of photoreceptors) as well as to take into account the abovementioned knowledge of glaucomatous VFs.…”

“…Hierdurch kann sich eine perimetrisch sinnvolle Rasterverdichtung z. B. an Nervenfaserbündeldefekten orientieren und somit ortsbezogen erfolgen [65,66]. Aktuelle Studien mit verdichtetem Prüf-punktraster konnten nahe am Gesichtsfeldzentrum gelegene und somit besonders bedeutsame Gesichtsfelddefekte aufzeigen [41,67].…”

“…Using individually condensed test grids focussed on morphologically suspicious areas thus increases the sensitivity for VF defect (VFD) detection compared with conventional (6 Â 61) rectangular stimulus arrangements. 5 Algorithms can be applied to the construction of a local condensation of the test point, according to the suspected underlying basic pathology -notching of the optic disc, for example.…”
