Evaluation of Gait Pattern and Lower Extremity Kinematics of Children with Morquio Syndrome (MPS IV)

Abstract: Morquio syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis IV/MPS IV) is a genetic disorder leading to skeletal abnormalities and gait deviations. Research on the gait patterns and lower extremity physical characteristics associated with skeletal dysplasia in children with MPS IV is currently limited. This research aimed to provide baseline gait patterns and lower limb skeletal alignment of children with MPS IV utilizing three-dimensional instrumented gait analysis. This Institutional Review Board-approved retrospective study ev… Show more

“…Additionally, in the final week of the experiment, we performed gait analysis in the MPS IVA mouse model to see the progression of the disease [ 24 , 25 , 26 ]. We did not observe changes in gait patterns even though CNP-treated mice had higher bony lengths ( Figure S2 ).…”

“…The average speed and, mainly, stride length were below normal in our study, consistent with Salazar-Torres. 21 This finding indicates a higher metabolic demand for gait, as demonstrated by Kimoto et al 22 Support time shows a fundamental correlation with stability and balance. High stance times represent a decrease in patients' ability to balance.…”

“…A velocidade média e, principalmente, o comprimento da passada estavam abaixo do normal em nosso estudo, semelhante ao descrito por Salazar-Torres. 21 Tal achado indica maior custo metabólico durante a marcha, como demonstrado por Kimoto et al 22 O tempo de apoio mostra correlação importante com a estabilidade e o equilíbrio. Valores elevados do tempo de apoio representam diminuição da capacidade de equilíbrio do paciente.…”
