Evaluation of Fracture Toughness and Mechanical Properties of Aluminum Alloy 7075, T6 with Nickel Coating

Abstract: A study on mechanical and fracture properties, through the experimentation techniques has been carried out on a Al 7075-T6 and it coated with an Electroless Nickel deposits of 10 -20 μm in coating thickness. In the recent years there has been considerable interest in the Electroless Nickel plating due to its extensive use in electronics, automobiles, aerospace and other industries. Electroless Nickel plating is a controlled autocatalytic reduction of nickel ions using suitable reducing agent such as sodium hyp… Show more

“…The earthenware particulates filled composite materials display improved resistance for indentation and found applications like automobile segments as cylinder, pistons, calipers, cylinder rings, microwave channel, vibrator segment, contactors, impellers and space structures [5]. Amongst Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) Aluminum (Al) composites have demonstrated excellent mechanical properties [6][7][8]. Sliding speed and distance, weight percentages of reinforcement and applied load has considerable impact on height loss due to friction and wear of Al6061 and Al6061-TiO 2 composites [9,10].…”

“…Due to the precipitation of Mg 2 Zn and Al2CuMg phases 7075 aluminum alloy presents good machinability, mainly high mechanical strength and specific stiffness [1][2][3], which makes it suitable for the fabrication of structural components for aerospace and automotive industries. Due to its chemical composition this alloy is susceptible to various forms of localized corrosion [4][5][6].…”
