Evaluation of fetal cardiac morphology and functions in pregnant women with familial Mediterranean fever

Abstract: Objective We aimed to evaluate and compare fetal cardiac morphology and functions of pregnant women with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and healthy pregnant women. Methods The study included 34 pregnant women with FMF and 68 healthy pregnant women matched with maternal age, gravidity, parity, gestational age, and pre‐pregnancy body mass index (BMI) in 34th–37th gestational weeks. Fetal echocardiographic evaluation was performed with two‐dimensional (2D) imaging, M‐mode imaging, pulsed wave (PW) Doppler, an… Show more

“…Maternal inflammatory processes may have effects on the fetal circulatory system. In a previous study, cardiac diastolic functions changed in fetuses with maternal familial Mediterranean fever compared to healthy fetuses, and fetal cardiac systolic functions changed as the duration of maternal disease increased 15 . In a study that included 55 SARS‐CoV‐2 infected pregnant women, fetal pulmonary artery AT and AT/ET ratio were lower in the group admitted to NICU 16 .…”

“…As the duration of maternal FMF increases, systolic functions may also change. 14 In our study, we found that MPI and LCO parameters did not change, but E wave and E/A ratio values were lower in the asthma group. We also found a prolongation of IVRT in the asthma group.…”

“…14 Control cases were planned as 60 participants as well. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used whether the variables were normally distributed or not. Because the variables were normally distributed, descriptive analyses were reported as mean and standard deviation.…”

“…The sample size was calculated using G Power software (version 3.1 Franz Foul, Kiel University). It was determined that at least 30 participants had to be included to achieve a mean effect size of 0.50 and 95% power at a significance level of < 0.05 14 . Control cases were planned as 60 participants as well.…”
