Evaluation of Fe2+/Peracetic Acid to Degrade Three Typical Refractory Pollutants of Textile Wastewater

Abstract: In this work, the degradation performance of Fe2+/PAA/H2O2 on three typical pollutants (reactive black 5, ANL, and PVA) in textile wastewater was investigated in comparison with Fe2+/H2O2. Therein, Fe2+/PAA/H2O2 had a high removal on RB5 (99%) mainly owing to the contribution of peroxyl radicals and/or Fe(IV). Fe2+/H2O2 showed a relatively high removal on PVA (28%) mainly resulting from ·OH. Fe2+/PAA/H2O2 and Fe2+/H2O2 showed comparative removals on ANL. Additionally, Fe2+/PAA/H2O2 was more sensitive to pH tha… Show more

“…Different methods for degradation and removal of RB5 can be found in scientific literature, such as biodegradation and biocatalysis [1,10,11], photocatalysis [12][13][14][15], electrocoagulation [2], Fenton or Fenton-like reaction [6,16], adsorption [9], or by activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) [17,18].…”

“…The release of colored wastewaters is not only aesthetically unpleasant, but also obstructs penetration of light, which affects biological processes. It can also potentially generate toxicity for aquatic organisms and finally, via food chain or exposure, in humans [5][6][7][8][9].…”
