Evaluation of environmental factors and microbial community structure in an important drinking-water reservoir across seasons

Abstract: The composition of microbial communities varies in water and sediments, and changes in environmental factors have major effects on microbiomes. Here, we characterized variations in microbial communities and physicochemical factors at two sites in a large subtropical drinking water reservoir in southern China. The microbiomes of all sites, including the diversity and abundance of microbial species, were determined via metagenomics, and the relationships between microbiomes and physicochemical factors were deter… Show more

“…The season was the same, and the dominant bacteria in the seawater and sediment in the benthic-culture area and the raft-culture area were similar, but the relative abundance was slightly different. The culture methods were the same, but the distribution of dominant bacteria in seawater and sediment in the four seasons was different and there were differences [31]. The abundance of dominant phyla in water, and sediment changed, which was consistent with previous studies [32][33][34].…”

“…Algae are mostly abundant in rivers and reservoirs connected to drinking water facilities and factories [1,2]. With rapid urbanization and industrialization, effluents can severely affect the environment.…”
