Evaluation of EDI derived from the exponential evapotranspiration model for monitoring China’s surface drought

Abstract: Drought has become the most severe natural disaster in many provinces of China. In this paper, evaporative drought index (EDI) has been used to monitor China's surface dryness conditions based on the exponential evapotranspiration (ET) model and Hargreaves equation from JAXA-MODIS Insolation products, GEWEX, NCEP-2 and MODIS NDVI data. The exponential ET model based on the surface net radiation, vegetation index, mean air temperature and diurnal air temperature range (DTaR) has been developed to estimate surfa… Show more

“…ET was found inconsistent with EC measurements; an overestimation of canopy resistance was reported for LAI \2.5. For monitoring China's surface drought events, evaporative drought index (EDI) has been used based on the exponential evapotranspiration (ET) model and Hargreaves equation from JAXA-MODIS Insolation products, GEWEX, NCEP-2 and MODIS NDVI data (Yao et al 2011).…”

“…A semi-empirical model, i.e., the exponential evapotranspiration model, was proposed by [48] to estimate China's evapotranspiration for April to September of 2004 by MODIS data, and experimental results validated that it was useful for monitoring China's surface drought events.…”

“…This can majorly affect spectroscopy absorption features (Hunt, 1980 andWeismiller et al, 1985). Remote sensing datasets and techniques were effectively used in several environmental applications in several countries (Fadhil, 2011(Fadhil, , 2013Wu et al 2019, Gaznayee and Al-Quraishi 2019, Alqasemi et al 2020a, Alqasemi et al 2020b, Kumar et al 2019Wu et al 2018;Yao et al 2011). The surface mineralogical features can be effectively mapping by remote sensing technology, especially Iron oxide, which has significant influences on the soil's spectral reflectance characteristics (Ciampalini et al, 2012).…”
