Evaluation of DNA/RNAshells for Room Temperature Nucleic Acids Storage

Abstract: Traditional nucleic acids preservation methods rely on maintaining samples in cold environments, which are costly to operate and time sensitive. Recent work validated that using room temperature for the storage of nucleic acids is possible if the samples are completely protected from water and oxygen. Here, we conducted accelerated aging and real-time degradation studies to evaluate the new technology DNAshell and RNAshell, which preserves DNA and RNA at room temperature, including the DNA and RNA yield, purit… Show more

“…Preservation of RNA has been widely reviewed; many methods are available, either preservation of the clinical specimen itself or pure extracted RNA, the gold standard method for preservation of RNA is freezing at −80 °C ( Daum et al, 2011 ; Foss et al, 2016 ; Liu et al, 2015 ; Mathay et al, 2012 ).…”

“…Описаны методы хранения ДНК в сухом состоянии: на коммерческих пластинах Biomatrica DNAstable, в 96-луночных планшетах c добавлением стабилизаторов ДНК (трегалозы или поливинилового спирта) [22], и в герметичных миникапсулах DNAshell из нержавеющей стали [23]. Все вышеописанные методы позволяют сохранять нуклеиновые кислоты при температуре окружающей среды в течение длительного времени, а качество подходит для последующих молекулярно-генетических тестов.…”

“…The mid- and long-term stability of the quality of the samples conserved at low temperature is often difficult to maintain and control, requiring substantial precautions [ 52 , 53 , 54 ]. It is for this reason that several procedures have been developed to maintain the quality and stability at RT of nucleic acids over a long period of time for subsequent use in research [ 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 ].…”
