Evaluation Of Disintegration In Prevesical Ureteral Calculi By 3-Dimensional Endo-Ultrasound With Surface Rendering

Abstract: Endo-ultrasound with surface rendering proved to be highly effective for evaluating ESWL success in cases of prevesical ureteral stones. This technique is independent from bowel gas or other factors that impede radiological imaging. It is safe, easy to learn, well tolerated by patients and does not expose them to radiation.

“…34 A transrectal 3D US approach has been proposed to evaluate the success of SWL for distal ureteral stones. 35,36 This technology may also offer radiation-free opportunities for improved percutaneous stone treatment planning and enhanced trainee and patient learning. [37][38][39] Reconstruction of the pelvicalyceal system from 3D US images has been shown to be feasible and anatomically comparable to casts of the collecting system.…”

“…On 3D endosonography, identifying a stone is much easier because the dilated part of the ureter serves as a guide to the stone, with 3D movement used to expose the virtual volume of tissue. 7 After the fragment is detected, it is possible to create a virtual coronal plane of the calculus without any extinction phenomenon. With this application, the maximum stone size can be evaluated.…”
