Evaluation of dental morphometrics during the orthodontic treatment

Abstract: BackgroundDiagnostic orthodontic and prosthetic procedures commence with an initial examination, during which a number of individual findings on occlusion or malocclusion are clarified. Nowadays we try to replace standard plaster casts by scanned objects and digital models.MethodGeometrically calibrated images aid in the comparison of several different steps of the treatment and show the variation of selected features belonging to individual biomedical objects. The methods used are based on geometric morphomet… Show more

“…To relate the outcomes to the initial situations prior to orthodontic treatment, manual measurements were performed on the T1 and T0 casts , including intercanine distance [1,7,8,11] and overjet [7,25]. The treatment-related changes of these parameters were obtained by calculating the difference between T0 and T1.…”

“…Based on these limitations, the authors suggest that future research in this regard should aim at recruiting a large sample from diverse backgrounds, make best use of the advancing technology in the form of three-dimensional dental casts and three-dimensional scanning software (50 µ),[ 30 ] and placing specific emphasis on posterior Bolton's ratio because elucidation of overall ratio is often considered debatable. [ 31 ] Future studies may also focus on the differences in possible discrepancies among patients with varying types of malocclusions.…”

“…Digital modelling plays and important role in the orthodontic treatment replacing classical plaster casts by they digital models [21,22]. Digitalization of plaster casts are performed either by the 3D scanning or by processing of their stereophotos allowing to use numerical methods for evaluation of specific measures of dental arch [23,24].…”
