“…But according to Villarrubia et al (2011), graft thickness does not influence BSCVA. Furthermore, increased corneal aberrations of the posterior surface have to be considered, which could be related to visual acuity following DSAEK or the formerly performed deep lamellar endothelial keratoplasty (DLEK) (Hindman et al 2007;Muftuoglu et al 2010;Yamaguchi et al 2011). Another explanation might be some form of subepithelial corneal haze that could be visualized in pentacam images (Uchino et al 2011) or by confocal microscopy (Espana & Huang 2010).…”

“…2,3,9 Price and Price 2 analyzed the factors that determine postoperative BCVA using a multiple regression model and found that preexisting retinal disease and/or amblyopia and recipient age affected vision. They also found 10 evaluated the light scatter and wavefront aberration after deep lamellar endothelial keratoplasty (DLEK) in 4 patients and found that the wavefront aberration was lower after DLEK than after penetrating keratectomy (PKP); however, the light scatter from corneal haze was higher after DLEK than after PKP. The differences in wavefront aberration in relation to limitation of the BCVA between Hindman et al's study and ours may be due to the differences in the number of patients and/or the follow-up times.…”

“…Studies utilizing recent wavefront technology have found that ocular surgeries increase the incidence of ocular and corneal higher order aberrations, thereby affecting postoperative visual function [14][15][16][17][18][19]. Thus, a good understanding of the effect of ocular surgeries on ocular and corneal higher order aberrations is clinically important.…”

“…Patients sometimes complain of changes in vision after trabeculectomy, but the mechanisms of these changes are not fully understood. On the other hand, recent advances in wavefront technology have revealed that ocular surgeries, such as corneal transplantation [14][15][16], intraocular lens implantation [17], scleral buckling surgery [18], and pterygium surgery [19], increase ocular and/or corneal higher order aberrations, thereby affecting postoperative visual function. It is thus evident that a thorough understanding of the effect of ocular surgeries on ocular and corneal higher order aberrations is clinically important.…”
