Evaluation of CupCarbon Network Simulator for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Wireless sensor networks are a technology in full evolution with great future and a huge quantity of applications. This document lists some of the limitations existing in WSN networks. In addition, several existing techniques are collected to maximize the network's lifetime, demonstrating that efficient use of energy is very important to achieve this goal. Due to the importance of knowing the behaviour of this type of network before its launch, a comparative is established for the options offered by the WSN ne… Show more

“…The proposed scheme ensures an energy consumption gain that considers time constraints. In [ 90 ], CupCarbon, a new WSN simulator, is presented. To evaluate the ease of use of the simulator, the authors proposed a modified version of the Dijkstra algorithm that includes the battery level of the nodes as an additional parameter for calculating the best route.…”

“…Such functionality permits clarification of network structure and realistic implementation before real deployments. It integrates propagation visibility with interference models and supports different communication interfaces, including, LoRa, Wi-Fi and ZigBee protocols [34]. CupCarbon is the fundamental kernel of the PERSEPTEUR ANR project aimed at developing algorithms for the accurate simulation of signal transmission in a 3D city area.…”

“…Moreover, this software is able to simulate IEEE 802.15.4 (Zigbee) [22], WiFi and LoRA, and each node has data processing capabilities through SenScript commands. It is an open source Java programmed tool, source code is available and may be altered to include custom code, functions or algorithms, e. g. an improved Dijsktra algorithm [25] or data mining techniques for fire detection [26].…”
