“…The steady state condition might be due to the lack of variation in the interface composition. By comparing the OCP values obtained for all the specimens it can be observed that the OCP value of Mg-10 wt.% Gd shifted to a noble potential value by at least 0.6 V. This increase of OCP suggests a reduction of susceptibility of the alloy to the corrosion process but the OCP values do not provide any information on the corrosion kinetics [33]. That is to say that the Mg-alloy interfaces immersed in 1 wt.% NaCl solution probably undergo formation of a magnesium hydroxide film wherein the adsorbed Cl -ions do not reduce the effectiveness of the protective film.…”
