Evaluation of commercial Mg(OH)2, Al(OH)3 and TiO2 as antimicrobial additives in thermoplastic elastomers

Abstract: Health concerns have driven the production of antimicrobial materials aimed at controlling the spread of diseases. Styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene (SEBS)-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) incorporated with titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH) 2 ) and aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH) 3 ) are one way to produce antimicrobial polymers. The purpose of this study is to characterise SEBS-based TPE compounds incorporated with TiO 2 , Mg(OH) 2 and Al(OH) 3 . The mechanical, optical and antimicrobial … Show more

“…In a turbid water link, B-light suffers from greater scattering, and its advantage in terms of less absorption is not obvious. In conclusion, B-light is better for a piped water-air-piped water interface, whereas R-light is better for a turbid water-air-turbid water interface 30,31 . transmission and that through m free-space transmission with 8.8 m piped water-air-piped water link.…”

“…The rectangular water tank is filled with clear ocean water with a particle concentration of 3.86 g/m 3 . The particle concentration of clear ocean water is produced with suspensions of Al(OH) 3 and Mg(OH) 2 , which is acquired by inserting a commercial antacid preparation (Maalox) [29], [30]. It is usually utilized in a laboratory experiment for providing the required particle concentration.…”

“…A 2.5 m-long water tank is loaded with piped water with a particle concentration < 0.1 g/m 3 or high-turbidity harbour water with a particle concentration of 33.46 g/m 3 . Water turbidity is made with suspensions of Mg(OH) 2 and Al(OH) 3 , by adding a commercial antacid preparation (Maalox) 37 . In piped underwater links, the underwater transmission distance is enhanced to 12.5 m (2.5 m × 5) with the adoption of plane mirrors on both sides of the water tank.…”
