In this study, we proved that micro/micro hierarchical structures are enough to achieve a superhydrophobic surface using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) dip-coating. Furthermore, the effect of fiber type and yarn diameter on superhydrophobicity and water spray resistance was investigated. Polyester fabrics with two types of fibers (staple fabric and filament) and three types of yarn diameters (177D, 314D, and 475D) were used. The changes in the surface properties and chemical composition were investigated. Static contact angles and shedding angles were measured for superhydrophobicity, and the self-cleaning test was conducted. Water spray repellency was also tested, as well as the water vapor transmission rate and air permeability. The PDMS-coated staple fabric showed better superhydrophobicity and oleophobicity than the PDMS-coated filament fabric, while the filament fabric showed good self-cleaning property and higher water spray repellency level. When the yarn diameter increased, the fabrics needed higher PDMS concentrations and longer coating durations for uniform coating. The water vapor transmission rate and air permeability did not change significantly after coating. Therefore, the superhydrophobic micro/micro hierarchical fabrics produced using the simple method of this study are more practical and have great potential for mass production than other superhydrophobic textiles prepared using the chemical methods.

Focusing on the “human–sport-clothing” system, this paper analyzed the influence of combinations of different tights and sport states on human body parts and overall body comfort from multiple dimensions. However, the motion state and some fabric parameters are non-numerical parameters, which could not be used for model analysis directly. In addition, there are too many numerical fabric parameters whose relationships are complicated, and it is difficult for general models to deal with these relationships, resulting in low accuracy of the comfort prediction model. Moreover, when using the artificial neural network to study comfort, it has some difficulties in expressing comfort and low prediction accuracy. To solve these problems, One-Hot was used to encode non-numerical parameters, and then intelligent algorithms were adopted to deal with these complex fabric parameters. Finally, a comfort prediction model was established in combination with an adaptive fuzzy reasoning system. The results showed that different fabric combinations and motion states had significant effects on local comfort (comfort of specific human body parts) and global comfort (whole body comfort). Moreover, the prediction model with non-numerical parameters has higher accuracy than the model without non-numerical parameters, which indicated that the prediction accuracy of the model had been improved after the introduction of One-Hot coding, so the non-numerical parameters cannot be ignored. The particle swarm optimization algorithm-cuckoo search algorithm-adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system hybrid model was superior to the particle swarm optimization algorithm-adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system and cuckoo search algorithm-adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system model in predicting local comfort and global comfort.

The main objective of this work is the preparation of nano-fibrous mats (NFM) from polyamide 6 (PA6) reinforced and functionalized by renewable proteinic waste and examining their potential use for the sorption of heavy metal ions and dyes from wastewater from textile plants. Two renewable waste biopolymers; namely keratin (from waste of wool combing) and sericin (from degumming of natural silk) were extracted and regenerated. NFM were prepared by electro-spinning of PA6/ biopolymer composites in formic acid using nozzle-less electro-spinneret. The potential of the prepared mats for sorption of Cr+6, Cr+3, Cu+2, and Pb+2 cations as well as anionic and cationic dyes from wastewater was assessed. The prepared composites were characterized by measuring their viscosity, nano-fibre diameter, pore size, thickness, and air permeability. The morphological structure of the electro-spun NFM was investigated by scanning electron Microscopy. Chemical and physical properties of the obtained mat were studied FTIR, TGA, DSC, and XRD. The capacity of the prepared NFM for sorption of cations and dyes depended on the mat composition and the nature of the adsorbed cation or dye. This work meets some environmental and economic demand by extraction of keratin and sericin from waste materials and their utilization in reinforcement of PA6 NFM for sorption of selected cations as well as dyes from textile effluents.
