Evaluation of clinical application of multi‐slice computerized tomography in primary retroperitoneal tumors

Abstract: Background To accurately identify primary retroperitoneal tumors by multi‐slice spiral CT (MSCT) for better treatment. Materials and Methods The common types of 380 cases of primary retroperitoneal tumor, lesion sites, and MSCT features were compared with pathological results. Fisher's or chi‐square test approaches have been applied in this study. Results Multi‐slice computerized tomography multi‐directional reconstruction has a high accuracy for primary retroperitoneal tumors (95.7%). Seventy‐three liposarcom… Show more

“…Nowadays, medical image analysis, particularly computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, has grown exponentially and helps to plan surgical procedures more precisely, leading to less invasive and more informative diagnoses. Although these tools provide high-resolution two-dimensional images, their ability to describe complex three-dimensional structures is limited [ 14 ].…”

“…This ability has proven useful for the visualization of complex structures such as congenital heart defects and aneurysms. However, the differences between the real anatomical structures and the interpretation of virtual images in three dimensions are still being studied [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ].…”

“…While ultrasonography is the preferred method of pelvic examination in females, it is susceptible to influences such as intestinal gas and frequently struggles to discern lesions due to the pelvic retroperitoneum. Enhanced CT is a valuable imaging method for evaluating the retroperitoneal tumor location, size, origin, and relationship to adjacent tissues and organs ( 16 ). However, CT is not fully applicable to the uterus and its appendages.…”
