Evaluation of Chest CT scan as a screening and diagnostic tool in trauma patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): a cross-sectional study in southern Iran

Abstract: Purpose: The lack of enough medical evidence about COVID-19 regarding optimal prevention, diagnosis, and treatment contributes negatively to the rapid increase in the number of cases globally. “…[22] During the treatment of COVID-19 and its complications, the use of corticosteroids caused a decrease in lung inflammation, cytokine storm, and fever. [23] [24] These studies however neither confirm that corticosteroids are the sole independent risk factor nor eliminate them as a risk factor. Diagnostic confirmation can be obtained by (a) direct microscopy with slides mounted with potassium hydroxide, particularly when it is necessary to start therapy immediately; (b) fungal culture; (c) biopsy of the affected lesions with adequate precaution; (d) radiological (computed tomography of osteomeatal complex and magnetic resonance imaging with contrast) examinations.…”

“…Inclusion criteria were confirmed case of COVID-19, patients with available medical records, and those with informed consent. The COVID-19 diagnosis was confirmed by a positive SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR using throat and nose swab from the upper respiratory tract sample or was clinically diagnosed based on lung imaging findings, especially chest CT scan ground glass pathognomonic features consistent with coronavirus pneumonia (31)(32)(33) when RT-PCR tests were not available. The admission criteria were as follows:…”

“…For example, digital technologies can prevent digital isolation, boost connectivity, and provide access to tools and information, which can provide insightful information on populations to achieve health objectives. Digital health technologies have been at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic and have caused a shift toward telehealth (eg, virtual visits, care, and e-prescriptions), mobile apps (patient monitoring), and instant messaging applications (risk assessment and screening, triage, etc) [ 32 - 34 ].…”
