“…Of the 370 patients, 94 patients underwent a biopsy and in 50 of those sarcoidosis was confi rmed by the histopathological examination results; the remaining 320 patients were classifi ed as control patients with uveitis with other etiologies (Tables 2, 3). In the 50 patients with biopsy-proven sarcoidosis, biopsied tissues were lung (38 patients), skin (8), and lymph node (2); Positive when serum levels of alkaline phosphatase are more than three times the upper limit of normal; or when two of the following liver enzymes, alkaline phosphatase, ASAT, ALAT, or γGTP, are more than twice the upper limit of normal. one patient underwent a conjunctiva biopsy, and another underwent a throat biopsy.…”

“…7 However, these criteria were established primarily by pulmonologists, whereas essential examinations required to diagnose uveitis patients include invasive tests such as 67 Ga scintigrams and examination of bronchoalveolar lavage fl uids. 7 Kawaguchi et al 8 analyzed ocular signs and systemic examination results in both uveitis patients with biopsy-proven sarcoidosis and control uveitis patients, and demonstrated that a combination of intraocular signs and systemic examination results based on noninvasive laboratory tests was highly predictive for the diagnosis of ocular sarcoidosis.…”

“…However, the gold standard for definitive diagnosis remains biopsy confirmation. This approach has been supported by one retrospective case-controlled study of Japanese patients (10). Hematological and biochemical tests may show normal erythrocyte sedimentation rate, anemia, lymphocytopenia, mildly increased liver enzymes, hypercalcemia and increased serum angiotensin enzyme levels.…”
