Evaluation of cast creep occurring during simulated clubfoot correction

Abstract: The Ponseti method is a widely accepted and highly successful conservative treatment of pediatric clubfoot involving weekly manipulations and cast applications. Qualitative assessments have indicated the potential success of the technique with cast materials other than standard plaster of Paris. However, guidelines for clubfoot correction based on the mechanical response of these materials have yet to be investigated. The current study sought to characterize and compare the ability of three standard cast mater… Show more

“…The adaptation may have taken place in the foot, in the cast, or both. However, the creep behaviour of cast materials is too limited for this effect, 16 indicating that the tissues in the clubfoot adapt to the position imposed by the cast.…”

“…Clubfoot is characterized by structural defects of several tissues of the foot and lower leg, which leads to abnormal positioning of foot and ankle joints [4,5]. The Ponseti method has been shown to be the most effective treatment for CCF [2]. Now, the Ponseti method has become the most widely used treatment for CCF [6].…”
