Evaluation of Cancer Specific Mortality with Surgery versus Radiation as Primary Therapy for Localized High Grade Prostate Cancer in Men Younger Than 60 Years

Abstract: Our data show significant survival differences in young men treated initially with surgery versus external beam radiation therapy for high-grade prostate cancer. Future prospective randomized trials are needed to confirm long-term outcomes of these treatment approaches.

“…The factors of GS, PSA or T stage are the widely accepted risk-grading standards in non-metastatic prostate cancer and have great impacts on the treatment decisions 15 . High-grade PCa has a great impact on the prognosis of patients and has always been one of the focuses in PCa researches 16 , 17 . In general, PCa with higher PSA levels or T stages is more aggressive and associated with poorer prognosis for the patients.…”

“…A randomized controlled trial is the ideal approach for comparing competing treatment modalities (19). However, most of the previously reported literatures comparing the e cacy of LDR and RP are retrospective studies (14,20). Compared with candidates for RP, patients who are offered LDR generally tend to be older and have higher comorbidity scores, therefore, a random trial is impractical (17,18).…”
